A symbolic difference between the Clinton and Bush 43 administrations is that W insisted on a coat and tie at all times in the Oval Office as a show of respect, whereas Slick Willy didn't even feel compelled to keep his pants on. But jackets are no longer required under Chairman NObama. The New York Times explains why:
The capital flew into a bit of a tizzy when, on his first full day in the White House, President Obama was photographed in the Oval Office without his suit jacket. There was, however, a logical explanation: Mr. Obama, who hates the cold, had cranked up the thermostat.
"He's from Hawaii, O.K.?" said Mr. Obama's senior adviser, David Axelrod, who occupies the small but strategically located office next door to his boss. "He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there." From Hawaii? He's lived in Chicago now for how long? Think he'd be used to the cold by now..Don't ya think?
So, Obama doesn't wear a jacket because it's hot in the office because he's cranked up the heat because he doesn't like the cold. He'd open the window, except he thought it was the door.
As for where the rest of us should keep our thermostats, I quote The Anointed One himself:
We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times … and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK.
The next four years should be good for lots of laughs.
