Why was the First American Revolution fought?

1. England needed money for their empire’s expansion, and thus, they taxed the Colonists for just about everything under the sun. Kind of like how the Federal government does things today. For example, ObamaKare needs a few trillion? No problemo says Nancy Pelosi, we’ll just slap a VAT (Value Added Tax) on Americans. Then, like today, Americans didn’t want to pay it.

2. England sent in the troops and the tax collectors in possession of “general” warrants to search people’s homes to things to tax or contraband, etc. Americans got mad then, as we are now, (Tea Party 12 Sep 09) and threatened to resist.

3. The British moved to seize guns and powder at Lexington Green. American’s then fired the “shot heard ‘round the world.”

In a nutshell, a government imposed high taxes, tyranny, an armed invasion of homes, a violation of privacy, and an abolition of certain God-given rights. Americans resisted the tyranny through peaceful means at first, petitioning the King of England. Their pleas were ignored, over and over and over and over, almost like Congress ignoring the will of the people over Porkulous, Cash for Clunkers, Bailouts of the Big Three, Bailouts of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, ObamaKare, etc. Thus, America was born in an act of resistance to tyranny!

So where are we at right now? Our Government, run by Liberals and a few RINOs (Snowe for one):

1. Spent 787 BILLION in a massive "stimulus" package, full of pork.
2. Took over the Big Three and then gave it to the UAW.
3. Is working to impose mandated ObamaKare for us even though we say NO!
4. Is working to regulate the salaries of CEO’s in PRIVATE industry.
5. Is trying to force Cap and Trade on us. (Government energy regulation and taxation of energy usage.)
6. Supports community organizers (ACORN) with taxpayer funding.
7. Is working to increase Capital Gains Tax by 60%!
8. Refuses to drill for domestic oil, thus keeping us energy DEPENDENT.
9. Is working to regulate PRIVATE health care insurance.
10. Refuses to implement tort reform.
11. Supports a federal regulation (fairness doctrine/local regulation) of radio stations.
12. Seeks to bail out their propaganda organs in the newspaper industry.
13. Refuses to rid us of illegal aliens.
14. Refuses to follow the Second Amendment at the highest levels, i.e., Eric Holder.
15. Is working to restrict the First Amendment, i.e., Obama vs. Rush Limbaugh/Fox News/Sean Hannity.
16. Refuses to side with freedom in Honduras while backing a Marxist named Zelaya.
17. Collaborates with dictators like Castro and Chavez.

Many of us reading this are Constitutional Conservatives. In a nutshell, we believe in the limits imposed on the Federal Government by the Constitution AND we believe that Conservatism, as outlined by such great minds as Burke, Eliot, WF Buckley, etc, We also believe in a republic of largely independent states. The First American Revolution was fought for a country that would the citizen’s natural God-given right to liberty, hence the words, “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” not what the liberals (especially THIS administration) would impose on us, “death panels, taxation, and government-imposed tyranny.

One of the [many] failing points of public education is that people are no longer taught what exactly IS a Republic. A Republic government is one that exercises a set of limited powers and NARROWLY defined functions, which are delegated to it by the will of the people. This is not a surrender of rights or will but an agreement that a small group of officials, answerable to the people, are sent to DC to do the “will of the people”, in regular and free elections. Unfortunately, many Americans are under the impression that we’re a Democracy, a form of mob rule really, and it’s a lie promulgated by the left for decades. A Democratic government, as stated above, is mob rule in a polite form. There are no limits to government power, as we’re seeing unfold on the Hill with Porkulous, Cash for Clunkers (US subsidizing other people’s new car purchases), ObamaKare, etc. If we object, as we are, we’re told that the majority rules. Exactly what our Founding Fathers fought AGAINST! The tyranny of the many over the few.

In a Republic, always remember that the government exercises narrow powers delegated to it by the people, who possess such power themselves wherein a Democracy, the rules come from the mob’s current flavor of the moment. Liberals will say that a Democratic government can be limited but this is nothing less than Stalin’s Big Lie technique at work. ONLY a Republican government can be limited in scope and size, hence the “Republican” Party that used to believe in such a thing but sadly, lose their way. For example, there is no right that people can steal from their neighbor in order to be more “equal” thus the government doesn’t have the power to create a welfare state, yet FDR did just that. The people cannot write checks beyond what is in their bank account yet the Federal Reserve, led by Congress and the President, do just that!

For example, here is how liberals use “mob rule” against us.

1. Liberals mandated in 1977 that banks must provide loans to people in the inner cities who have no credit, no money and are considered bad risks. (A violation of economic and free market principles)

2. Liberals mandated in the CRA that they would prevent bank expansions and impose lawsuits if any bank refused to give loans to people with risky credit. Oddly enough, Barack Obama, as an ACORN lawyer, sued banks for not making enough loans to these people! (A violation of economic and free market principles with a hefty dose of Federal tyranny to boot).

3. Liberals used OUR TAX DOLLARS to bail out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that THEY used to BACK the bad loans! Liberals working to destroy the financial system.

Indeed, the very people responsible for our entire financial meltdown are in power blaming the Republicans for this mess and many Americans are, or were before the Tea Party uprising, too stupid to figure it out! The Democrats created and enforced the CRA. It was Thomas Jefferson who said, "the people are the ultimate guardians of their own liberty." Time to wake up folks.

15 April 2009: the first shot was fired. Roughly 700 anti-tax “Tea Parties” erupted across the nation. The Lapdog media, really nothing more than courtiers to Obama, ignored them or as on CNN, called them “tea baggers,” a reference to a sexual practice that liberal men do to one another. Laughingly, Obama stated that he was unaware of the tea parties but later called them something dangerous that could become “unhealthy.” What does that mean? Americans cannot express their anger in free protests as allowed under the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence? When did we swear alleigance to King Barack? Never. We swore allegiance to the Constitution! To protect and defend it against ALL enemies, foreign AND domestic. And an oath once sworn cannot be unsworn. If you guessed that the Gunny is in high dudgeon over all of this, you win a cigar.

4 July 2009: the second shot came with thousands of America citizens, from sea to shining sea, gathering to protest “taxation without representation,” which it IS when liberal politicians and their RINO/CINO allies are spending OUR MONEY willy-nilly. Case-in-point: Obama gives 2 BILLION of our money to Brazil so that THEY can drill for oil off of THEIR coast! The courtiers called us terrorists, mobsters, and called the entire affair right-wing nutjobs and kooks, and dismissed it.

August and September 2009: This was actually volley fire aimed point blank at politicians in Townhalls who backed Obama’s health care reform package! American citizens put the fear of God into them as they shouted down their calls for government tyranny, higher taxes, and a submission to government. Then 1.7 MILLION Americans marched on DC on 12 Sept 09. Obama and his Lapdog media called us a Conservative fringe group or more laughingly, Republican agents agitated by Rush Limbaugh and Fox News! Oh yeah, and Sean Hannity too! We’re mad as hell that our Representation is passing bills THEY DO NOT READ and furthermore, WON’T LET US READ! (Baucus Bill for one) We’re forced to suck down taxpayer-financed bailouts, subsidies (cash for clunkers), buyouts, rescue plans, porkulous plans, and government tyranny (CEO pay regulation for example), with no public platform to vocalize our disagreement, and our only option is to email or call Congress, which are ignored as was the pleas to King George in 1770-1775. Now we’re exploding in anger and ObamaKare is just another big government plan to control our lives and make us PAY for it, once again telling us what we can or cannot do

America has some serious issues folks:

The dollar is plummeting and the government, led by Obama could care less. Hell, they're printing MORE money to cover their debt.

The Congress is spending trillions of dollars it does not have in order to impose a socialistic tyrannical rule over us.

The Congress has the lowest approval rating in our history and tried to pass the largest tax increase in American history with Crap and Tax.

The Lapdog media refuses to report anything adverse on their demi-god Obama who hates America.

Perhaps the most frightening is that American citizens are STILL more concerned over the death of a pedophilic fruitcake singer or that Ellen is on American Idol now than in what their government is trying to impose on them!

A Republican government’s main duty is to protect the individual’s right to life, liberty, their private property, and of course, the pursuit of happiness. In this area our current government gets an “F”. Our fellow Americans are being murdered, robbed, pillaged, etc, by illegal aliens and they do nothing. No, they actually DO do something, they write in ObamaKare that WE have to PAY for their health care, thus guaranteeing MORE illegals on the way! Our federal government has become something ugly, corrupt, and tyrannical. They seek to rule over us and this is not only wrong but criminal. They refuse to reform social security, they refuse to prosecute tax evaders like Rangel, Solis, Ghietner, and instead, put them into positions of power. They refuse to implement tort reform. They refuse to allow competition across state lines for health insurance carriers. They refuse to follow the Second Amendment and force us to SUE THEM for our rights! They refuse to follow their oaths of office and that is simply despicable.

We must cease believing politicians’ WORDS and look at their DEEDS! This the Lapdog Media failed to do with Obama, as did the idiots who voted for him. How do know a politician is lying? Their lips are moving. We no longer have representation in our government. The few good politicians are outweighed by tax and spenders like Pelosi, Reid, and Obama who are not only rich, but enjoy the finest life has to offer, all on our dime. The Second American Revolution started in April and it’s a fight for what America was supposed to be and could be again. We watch as Obama uses the power of government to destroy the lives of private citizens like Joe the Plumber and attack those who disagree with him, i.e., Limbaugh and Hannity, which is an un-American as it gets. Americans do not attack freedom of speech but liberals are doing just that. Is that not a declaration of war on the American people? When liberals refuse to defend our borders against illegal aliens, is that not a repudiation of their sworn duty? When liberals like Eric Holder refuse to allow us our Second Amendment rights what is that if not an attack on our God-given rights as a free people in a free country? Washington wrote: “Perseverance and spirit have done wonders in all ages,” and that should be our motto. We are resisting tyranny by all peaceful means but when the government does not listen, when they do not care to listen, and when they move to oppress us, what else is there BUT violence? May God prevent that from happening but one has to wonder would it be better to fight in the streets for a free America or submit as slaves?

In closing, the Gunny would leave you with one quote: “I know not what course others may take, but for me, give me liberty or give me death.” Patrick Henry. Can we choose any other course today? Do we have a duty for follow on generations of Americans to fight for our freedom in the face of prison or death today? Will politicians listen and heed us or will they, like King George, ignore us at their peril? In any event, the Gunny prays that we don’t shirk our duty as a free people, whatever direction it goes. Freedom over tyranny my friends, at any cost.

U.N. Loves Obama Because He Is WEAK

Barack Obama’s Gallup approval rating of 52 percent may well be lower at this stage of his presidency than any US leader in recent times with the exception of Bill Clinton. But he is still worshipped with messiah-like adoration at the United Nations, and is considerably more popular with many of the 192 members of the UN than he is with the American people.
The latest Pew Global Attitudes Survey of international confidence in Obama’s leadership on foreign affairs shows strikingly high approval levels for the president in many parts of the world – 94 percent in Kenya, 93 percent in Germany, 88 percent in Canada and Nigeria, 77 percent in India, 76 percent in Brazil, 71 percent in Indonesia, and 62 percent in China for example. The Pew survey of 21 countries reveals an average level of 71 percent support for President Obama, compared to just 17 percent for George W. Bush in 2008.
As the figures indicate, Barack Obama is highly likely to receive a warm reception when he addresses the United Nations General Assembly today, whereas his predecessor in the White House was greeted with undisguised contempt and stony silence.
It is not hard to see why a standing ovation awaits the president at Turtle Bay. Obama’s popularity at the UN boils down essentially to his willingness to downplay American global power. He is the first American president who has made an art form out of apologizing for the United States, which he has done on numerous occasions on foreign soil, from Strasbourg to Cairo. The Obama mantra appears to be – ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do to atone for your country. This is a message that goes down very well in a world that is still seething with anti-Americanism.
It is natural that much of the UN will embrace an American president who declines to offer strong American leadership. A president who engages dictators like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hugo Chavez will naturally gain respect from the leaders of the more than 100 members of the United Nations who are currently designated as “partly free” or “not free” by respected watchdog Freedom House.
The UN is not a club of democracies - who still remain a minority within its membership – it is a vast melting pot of free societies, socialist regimes and outright tyrannies. Obama’s clear lack of interest in human rights issues is a big seller at the UN, where at least half its members have poor human rights records.
The president scores highly at the UN for refusing to project American values and military might on the world stage, with rare exceptions like the war against the Taliban. His appeasement of Iran, his bullying of Israel, his surrender to Moscow, his call for a nuclear free world, his siding with Marxists in Honduras, his talk of a climate change deal, have all won him plaudits in the large number of UN member states where US foreign policy has traditionally been viewed with contempt.
Simply put, Barack Obama is loved at the UN because he largely fails to advance real American leadership. This is a dangerous strategy of decline that will weaken US power and make her far more vulnerable to attack.
As we saw last week with his shameful surrender to Moscow over missile defence, the president is perfectly happy to undermine America’s allies and gut its strategic defences while currying favour with enemies and strategic competitors. The missile defence debacle is rightly viewed as a betrayal by the Poles and the Czechs, and Washington has clearly give the impression that it cares little about those who have bravely stood shoulder to shoulder with their US allies in Iraq, Afghanistan and the wider war on terror.
The Obama administration is now overseeing and implementing the biggest decline in American global power since Jimmy Carter. Unfortunately it may well take another generation for the United States to recover.

Doctor Shortage Will Worsen Health Bill

The fundamental question that the Obama Administration has never answered is a simple one: How can they treat 50 million new patients with no extra doctors?A new report from the American Association of Medical Colleges underscores the urgency of this concern. The Association notes that the United States now suffers from a shortage of 15,000 doctors - a shortfall that is expected to grow to 125,000 in fifteen years. And, the Association reports, if universal health insurance is passed, the shortage will grow to over 150,000 by 2025.

While the number of elderly people in the U.S. is expected to grow by 60% over the next decade and a half, the number of doctors will increase by only about 6%. (Total U.S. population will rise by about 17% over the same period).This shortage of doctors will, inevitably, lead to the rationing of medical care, more quickly and drastically if the Obama plan is passed. In Massachusetts, where universal health coverage was enacted under Governor Mitt Romney in 2006, the Medical Society found that the number of patients who reported difficulty in getting care has already risen by 50% up to a quarter of the patient population. The New York Times reports that "a main reason for the logjam was long waiting times for appointments."In 1949, when President Harry Truman first proposed mandatory health insurance, he coupled his initiative with an expansion of federal aid to medical schools. But Obama makes no provision for an expansion of the pool of doctors, even as he grows the population of patients by up to 50 million.Indeed, by cutting medical fees by dropping the reimbursement rates under Medicare, he likely will hasten the retirement of many medical professionals worsening the underlying shortage. The Times quotes medical experts as predicting that the three years specified in the House bill as the time by which universal health insurance coverage will take effect "is not nearly enough time to build the supply of doctors needed to care for the additional tens of million of people who would become newly insured."Because there will not be enough doctors, nurses, and medical equipment for the massive influx of patients under the Obama plan, there will be rationing, more draconian year after year. As in Canada, it is this fundamental discrepancy between the number of patients and the population of doctors that will lead to rationing. From there, the inevitable consequence will be cutbacks in care for the elderly. Optional procedures, vital to quality life but not to survival, are likely to be limited. Hip replacements, new knees, hearing aids, and such are less and less likely to be approved. And, medical administrators will be less likely to OK surgery or expensive medical treatments for the elderly who they perceive to be at the end of their "quality" years.It is the shortage of doctors, not any specific language in the text of the legislation, that makes rationing and the so-called "death panels" cited by Sarah Palin inevitable.We all agree that everybody should have health insurance, but let us precede this step by expanding the number of doctors and nurses so that we can cover everyone without sacrificing the care for anyone. Otherwise, we are not giving 50 million new people medical care. We are consigning 300 million, and particularly the elderly among them, to long waiting lists.

Would Reagan Stand For This?

For those of us who fought in the Cold War, or in a Hot one for that matter, against Communism, this is especially obnoxious. The Gunny's father fought in the Cold War from the outset (1948), the Gunny and his brothers served in the military at some time during the Cold War, and the Gunny had two Uncles who fought in Korea, from 1951-53. Hey Did You Read The Job Description??

In case the Bama failed to read the full job description before he took the gig, it involves preserving,protecting, and defending the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The presidency knows no break, no true vacation, no real uninterrupted downtime. That's the nature of the job. If anyone doesn't want to live that way for four or eight years, then they have no business running for the job to begin with.
Our current president just returned from a week's vacation on Martha's Vineyard, only to hightail it to Camp David for the rest of the week and through the Labor Day weekend, because, as his spokesman Bill Burton put it, "He needs a break from his vacation."

Burton went on to say that the Bama had been looking for a news-free week last week, but it didn't turn out that way, with the re-nomination of Ben Bernanke to the Fed and Ted Kennedy moving on to meet his Maker.

So apparently, the Bama is bushed from his vacation and needs another one. He's so exhausted from those whopping two events last week that he needs to really escape. Someone book this man a spa getaway with the girls!

Here's the bottom line: I don't think he likes being president.

Don't get me wrong: I think he loves the power of it; the power to say, ruin the free market or send mash notes to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hugo Chavez or investigate our own patriotic and dedicated CIA operatives. I also think he loves the perks: the plane, the valets, the private chef, the never having to get stuck in traffic.

But I don't think he likes the demands on his time, the heavy lifting of policy, the schmoozing necessary to pass legislation. In other words, he doesn't like governing. He finds it boring. A waste of his time---time better spent working out, smoking, sleeping in, and playing golf.

This is why he turned over every major piece of legislation to Nancy Pelosi and her rabid band of left-wing zanies to write: the waste of a trillion dollars known as the economic stimulus, the cap and trade job killer, and the government takeover of health care. He sat back and let them dictate the terms, because he was too busy planning the destruction of the country---and oh yeah, his next vacation. The result is that all three policies have either been policy or political catastrophes, for him, his party, and the nation. No wonder he needs another vacay.

There's delegating responsibility---and then there's failure to lead.

The Bama has utterly failed the test of leadership so far.

But he's passed the vacation test with flying colors.

Disaster In The Polls For Obama

This week's polls are a disaster for President Obama. The Rasmussen poll has his approval dropping to 45 percent, after several weeks at 49 percent. The Zogby poll has it even lower -- at 42 percent.

Worse yet, he's losing his political base:


* People under 30 -- long a key element of his support -- give him no better than break-even ratings, with 41 percent approving and 41 percent disapproving of the job he's doing, according to Zogby.

* Only 75 percent of Democrats, who formerly have supported Obama strongly, now approve of his performance in office. Zogby reports that this represents a slide of more than 10 points over the summer.

* Even among blacks, only 74 percent approve of the job he's doing (also a drop of more than 10 points).

* Hispanics, who voted for him by a margin of more than 40 points, now break even (36-36) when rating his performance.

Independents, the key swing group in our politics, now deliver a sharply negative 37-50 verdict on Obama's job performance. The elderly also give him negative ratings by 42-51.

This poll-implosion leaves Obama with few good options.

He obviously can't get 60 votes in the Senate for his health-care proposals in their current form. No Republican will support them, and moderate Democrats aren't likely to vote with him.

If he tries to pass it with 50 votes, using so-called reconciliation procedures, he may also fail -- because he'd also lose the votes of less-moderate Democrats who'd quail at using parliamentary tricks to pass such a radical, unpopular program.

If Obama waters down his proposals to attract moderate support, he'd lose votes on the left -- perhaps more than he'd gain, at this point.

Yet the longer he takes to resolve this political problem, the more his ratings will slip -- diminishing his power to achieve anything. No president with support in the 30s would be able to push through a program like his health-care agenda.

It now looks like health-care reform will cripple the Obama presidency, as it did Bill Clinton's in 1993.

Of course, Clinton was able to move to the center and secure re-election in 1996. But can a true believer like Obama do the same? He's shown a willingness to move to the center on foreign policy, leaving troops in Iraq and adding them in Afghanistan. But on the domestic front, the only aread where he's been willing to embrace centrist positions is education.

At best, Obama will be months if not years recovering from this disaster. In the short term, he's likely to finish September wishing he'd stayed in Martha's Vineyard.

Bill Maher Appears On Conan..What An Idiot

Bill Maher made his first appearance on the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien.

He invited himself. Apparently, Maher called up and offered to come on the show, not to plug anything, but just to welcome O'Brien to California.

I didn't know Maher was serving as the Welcome Wagon.

I disagree with the notion that he had nothing to plug. Egomaniac Maher asked to be on the show to plug himself. It's also possible that Obama's people wanted Maher on the air to talk up Obama while he frolics on Martha's Vineyard.

There was some chitchat about California v. New York. The supposedly thoughtful Maher claimed to be concerned about how O'Brien was adjusting to his move out to California. It was an awkward exchange.

Eventually, of course, Maher talked politics.

O'Brien brought up Maher's recent "little bit of a controversy," the interview Maher did on CNN with Wolf Blitzer.

CONAN O'BRIEN: Some people got upset because you said that America is stupid.

BILL MAHER: Yes.

O'BRIEN: And they got upset.

MAHER: You know who did? The stupid people.

O'BRIEN: Yes.

MAHER: Not us. Nobody in this room.... Well, I mean, I was answering a specific question. Wolf Blitzer asked me if I thought Sarah Palin could win a presidential election. And I said, 'I think anything's possible in this stupid country.' And yes, some people's heads exploded, and Bill O'Reilly called me a pinhead.

O'BRIEN: He called you a pinhead?

MAHER: Yes, which is A) not true, and B) really funny coming from a doody-face like him.

O'BRIEN: You're right. It is a stupid country.

MAHER: Well, it is. So, I had to... The next week I just had to defend myself because, you know, I like to back up what I say. So, you know, you can look this stuff up. There are polls that they do, and they find out what people in this country are thinking or, in this case, not thinking. And it's really frightening. Like over half the people cannot name one branch of government or tell..., or tell you what the Bill of Rights is.

Um, they're constantly bitching and moaning about how much taxes they are taxed, and spend. They have no idea what the government spends money on. Like they think 24 percent of our budget goes to foreign aid when it's less than 1 percent. Eighteen percent of people think that the sun revolves around the earth. I'm not making this up.

O'BRIEN: Andy just fainted at that one.

MAHER: Here's a great one: More than half the people do not get it that Judaism preceded Christianity. That's half the people look at books called the New Testament and the Old Testament and cannot figure out which came first.

I hate to be the bad guy, but it is, you know... A third of Republicans think Obama was not born in this country.

O'BRIEN: That's... They have a name.

MAHER: The birthers.

O'BRIEN: The birthers. Yeah.

MAHER: Yes. I mean that's a good example of.... Any birthers here? I don't want to get shot.

(Very little applause)

MAHER: But, yeah, these are, you know, will not accept that he was born in Hawaii, but I read this week 10 percent of people don't know Hawaii is a state.

O'BRIEN: Really?

MAHER: Yeah, but uh, there's nothing you can do. I mean, they have shown his birth certificate. I mean, but they cannot be convinced. You could go up to these birther people with the original birth certificate, personally deliver it with the placenta...

O'BRIEN: Don't do that.

MAHER: You could have a video of Obama emerging from the womb with Don Ho singing in the background. Jack Lord could be filming...

O'BRIEN: Sure, I hope so.

MAHER: ...Hawaii 5-0 behind the birth and they would not believe it. So, you know, I make a bargain with these people: I will show you Obama's birth certificate if you show me Sarah Palin's high school diploma. How 'bout that?

I think it's funny that Maher depicts conservatives as stupid people.

Maher could have mentioned the stupidity of the 9/11 truthers, as he's done in the past.


O'BRIEN: You have said, and you may have a point here, that you think that President Obama, uh, in how many day has he been in office now? They were counting for a while. It's his ninth day. It's his 100th day. And I don't know what it is now -- it's 140 days, 120 days in office -- that he's overexposed. Do you think our president is overexposed?

MAHER: Well, he is. I mean, at some point, 'Change we can believe in' became, you know, 'Tyler Perry meets the Obamas,' which is fine. I like him. I mean, let's put this in perspective. I'm glad he is the president. You know, I mean, it's a big difference from what we had, just grammatically, you know.

(Applause)

MAHER: When the president speaks, English teachers don't cry now. But, yeah, there is a fine line between transparency, which we did not have with the previous administration, and being overexposed.

I mean, I get it. He likes to be on TV. I like my bong. I take it out of my mouth every once in a while.

Obama has had more than his share of verbal gaffes. The man is lost without his teleprompter.

Have we ever had a president speak more slowly and say "uh" more often than Obama?

Do English teachers cry when they hear the president say, "all wee-weed up"?


MAHER: And, uh, you know, I mean, the point I was trying to make when a president cares that much about his popularity, I don't think it's a good thing. I don't want my president to be primarily a TV star who's worried about his ratings.

I think right now, for example, this health care debate looks like it's... we could lose it because I don't think he has been tough enough. This, you know, he used to say in the campaign, 'It's your time.' This is his time. He should get mad. Stop dicking around. Can you say that here?

O'BRIEN: None of this will air. They're gonna show a Leave it to Beaver.

MAHER: Right. Well, that's dirtier than my...

O'BRIEN: Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey!

O'BRIEN: We can do better.

MAHER: That's my 'Welcome to California beaver' joke.

O'BRIEN: Thank you very much. We didn't get enough of those in New York. I appreciate it.

I thought Maher was a libertarian.

Has he converted?

Certainly, a true libertarian wouldn't want a massive government bureaucracy controlling health care.


MAHER: Right, right. Uh, but, yeah, I mean, you know, they're talking about 60 votes they need. Forget this stuff, 60.... You can't get Americans to agree on anything 60 percent. Sixty percent of people don't believe in evolution in this country.

He just needs to drag them to it. Like I just said, they're stupid. Just drag them to this. Get health care done, you know, with or without them. Make the Gang of Six an offer they can't refuse. This Max Baucus guy? He needs to wake up tomorrow with an intern's head in his bed.

MAHER: I'm serious. You know, this is where, I said this months ago and people criticized me, this is where the president needs to be a little more like Bush. Bush had horrible ideas -- torture, deregulation, massive tax cuts for the rich, preemptive war -- horrible ideas.

But you know what? He had that swagger that said, 'I'm just gonna get it through. Suck on it, America, if you don't like it.'

O'BRIEN: So, you think Obama needs to get to that level of toughness.

MAHER: He needs to marry his good ideas with that kind of attitude.

They asked Dick Cheney once, 'Most of Americans are against the Iraq war.' Do you remember what he said? 'So?'

In other words, 'We got elected. You have your opinions. Fine. That's what Twitter is for. But, I'm gonna do what I have to do.'

And that's what Obama should do. He should wake up tomorrow and say, 'Jesus told me to fix health care.' I'm certain about it. Seriously.

Funny that Maher mocks President Bush's faith.

Just last week, Obama said, "We are God's partners in matters of life and death."

I think that translates to "Jesus told me to fix health care."


O'BRIEN: Well, he does. It's one thing to say that he needs to get tough, but we have a two party system. He needs those votes. He has to convince....

MAHER: He doesn't need those votes. That's the point. He does not need those votes. They have 60 votes. They only need 51.

That's right. The Republicans aren't blocking anything. This is the Dems' baby. Reconciliation.


O'BRIEN: But there is something to be said probably for making in a two party system...

MAHER: He has tried. We do not have a two party system.

O'BRIEN: Right.

MAHER: We have two parties, but we don't have the right two parties. We have one party that is a good party if you're defending banks, credit card companies, big agriculture, pharmaceutical lobby. That would be the Democrats. And then on the other side, we have a fringe party of religious lunatics, flat-earthers, and Civil War reenactors who call themselves...

MAHER: They call themselves the Republicans, and they take their orders from Rush Limbaugh. And they think Obama is a socialist. Socialist? He's not even a liberal. What we need is a progressive party in this country. We don't have it.

Maher is operating under an entirely different set of definitions if he thinks that Obama isn't a liberal.

MAHER: But that's what he's been trying, compromise. And they don't want to compromise. See, they only win when health care loses. That's how this...

O'BRIEN: Is your prediction then that health care will not pass. Is that what you're saying?

MAHER: I don't know. I just hope that he doesn't sign anything that says 'health care reform,' you know, if it's not actual health care reform.

Again, I thought Maher was a libertarian. Apparently, he's abandoned that.

Maher's segment ended with him complaining about the government subsidizing "bad things."


MAHER: Please, you're in California now. Let me show you how to eat.

O'BRIEN: What is that?

MAHER: Well, I'm just saying I wouldn't eat a hot dog if you put a condom on it.

O'BRIEN: Neither would I!

That was the only time I laughed during Maher's appearance, and it was at something O'Brien said.

O'Brien seemed rather uncomfortable during much of the interview.



It was like he didn't want to agree with Maher even when he did.

Maher's extremism seemed to make him nervous. O'Brien didn't say much. He kept sipping from his mug. It was as if O'Brien was searching for a joke to interject and lighten things up, but instead he just ended up listening as Maher did his "America is stupid" shtick.

It wasn't entertaining.

In a poll from the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, 63 percent of Americans said they thought the two sides weren’t working together. While 29 percent of respondents said Republicans are most to blame for the lack of cooperation, 17 percent cited Obama, up from 7 percent in February, Pew said. The request included records relating to compensation of highly paid employees, documents relating to companies' premium income and claims payments, and information on expenses stemming from any event held outside company facilities in the past 2 1/2 years. The requests were made in letters signed by Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., who guided a portion of health care legislation through the House Energy and Commerce Committee last month as chairman, and Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Mich., who heads the Energy and Commerce investigations and oversight subcommittee. The Senate bill imposes a new requirement that all persons who provide health care coverage to others must file a return with the IRS listing the names, addresses, social security numbers, and the coverage period for each person, and "such other information as the Secretary [of Health and Human Services] may prescribe." (Section 161(b) starting at page 107). The bill does not limit what information the Secretary may request, so it is conceivable and likely that information as to the nature of the coverage, the family members included, and other details will be reported to the IRS. It wasn't Always A Big Deal To Threaten The President

Last Wednesday, a kook in western Maryland made the media's day by getting carried away and bringing a "Death to Obama" sign to a town hall meeting. He was promptly arrested by the Secret Service. William Kostric wore a gun to a protest outside of where Comrade Obama was staging one of his phony dog and pony shows, and carried a sign reading "It's Time to Water the Tree of Liberty." Chris "Tingles" Matthews decided to interpret this as a death threat, nearly causing his own head to explode.
But there was a time when threatening the president's life was all the rage, as exhaustively documented by Zombie. A few examples:
Apparently no one was ever arrested or even questioned for threatening W's life at moonbat protests, in stark contrast to the hysterical reactions to the vaguest hint of a threat today. Zombie explains the discrepancy:
I contend that the media is aggressively reporting on, highlighting and pursuing any and all possible threats to President Obama — and even hints of threats — but they purposely glossed over, ignored or failed to report similar threats to President Bush. Why? I believe it is part of an ideological bias: most mainstream networks and newspapers tried their best during the Bush administration to portray the anti-war movement as mainstream and moderate; whereas now they are trying to portray the anti-tax and anti-health-care-bill protesters as extremists and as fringe kooks. To achieve these goals, they essentially suppressed any mentions of the violent signage (including threats to Bush) at anti-war rallies, but have highlighted anything that could even conceivably be construed as a threat at anti-Obama events.
To get an idea of how widespread threats against W were, here is Dem presidential candidate John "François" Kerry joking about bashing his head in with a rock:

Once again, the lesson is: anything goes, so long as you're a liberal. In contrast, conservatives are held to the highest standards. This is both a cause and an effect of the fact that liberals have no standards, whereas conservatives aspire to the highest ones.

Elderly Swing Away From Obamacare

The most ominous signal yet for the Obama health care plan emerged in the poll by Scott Rasmussen released today. While public support for the plan fell to a new low (42% support, 53% oppose -- down five points in two weeks), the elderly emerged as the strongest opposition group. Those over 65 rejected the plan by 39-56 while almost half -- 46% -- said they were "strongly opposed" to it.

The group that supports the plan most strongly is those likely to be least affected, voters under the age of thirty, 67% of whom support the proposals.

The Democratic Senators and Congressmen can well choose to ignore polls. Polls go up. Polls go down. They may figure that the public will have moved on by the time they run for re-election, particularly those Senators who are not up in 2010. With four or six years to go in their terms, they can afford a relaxed view of polling data.

But the Democratic Party as a whole cannot afford to ignore a massive defection in the ranks of the elderly, one of its key building blocks. Ever since the New Deal coalition was cobbled together by FDR, the elderly have been a major component. Worried about Republican designs on their Social Security, they vote overwhelmingly Democratic.

But the Obama proposals, which many see correctly as a major cut in Medicare, might be seminal in driving them en masse away from the Democrats.

The Democratic Party is built on six pillars -- blacks, Latinos, single women, young people, union members, and the elderly. If legislation threatens one of those pillars, it threatens the stability of the entire partisan structure. And Obama's health care reform seems to do just that.

With 40% of the savings in medical spending coming from Medicare, the senior citizens of America are coming to see the Obama proposals as an assault on their health care system. Since their needs are fully met by Medicare, they see no need for monkeying with the system and are highly suspicious of any changes. When they watch as their fellow seniors attend town meetings to protest to their Congressmen about these cuts and are labeled "un-American" for their pains, their alienation from the Democrats just grows.

The fissure Obama is driving between his party and the elderly will not soon heal. When the elderly change their voting habits, they tend to do so for a very, very long time. Even Senators who are up in

2012 or 2014 should worry that their votes for the Obama plan could doom their ability to attract elderly support.

As to the young people who back the plan, once they learn that they will have to pay steep premiums for health care coverage, whether they want to or not, their support is likely to cool. Under the bill, for example, those making $30,000 a year would have to pay up to 7% of their income in health insurance premiums before they could get a government subsidy. A $2,100 bill for such a young person might seem affordable to Obama, but perhaps not to them. Thus, the legislation may well come to be seen as a tax on the young, another of the key constituencies of the Democratic Party.

The cost of Obama's health care changes just keeps growing -- financially and politically.

Cash For Clunkers Should Be Called Cash For Japan

The only part of the stimulus program that is working, the cash-for-clunkers program is, in reality, a subsidy to foreign car companies, proving that Barack Obama is the best president Japan ever had.

The Department of Transportation reports that the ten leading trade-ins are all American branded cars while six of the top ten new cars purchased - and four of the top five - are foreign. So the United States Senate is about to pass additional funds to subsidize the trade-in of American cars and the purchase of foreign cars.

DOT reports that the following are the ten top trade-ins, all American:

It is a violation of the World Trade Organization rules to enact a public subsidy program and skew it toward only domestically produced products, so the Congress has no choice but to extend the program to all comers. No choice, that is, but to not spend the money in the first place.

Cash for Clunkers will do wonders for the Japanese economy, but its impact on the US job situation is problematic. This unintended consequence is a great illustration of what happens when the blunt tool of government subsidy is applied to the fine tuning of a free market economy. Government planners keep getting it wrong. That's why socialism is such a bad idea.

So Obama can boast of a great success in taking American cars off the road and replacing them with foreign cars. Great going!

Kenneth Gladney, a 38-year-old conservative activist from St. Louis, said he was attacked by some of those arrested as he handed out yellow flags with “Don't tread on me” printed on them. He spoke to the Post-Dispatch from the emergency room of the St. John's Mercy Medical Center, where he said he was waiting to be treated for injuries to his knee, back, elbow, shoulder and face that he suffered in the attack. Gladney, who is black, said one of his attackers, also a black man, used a racial slur against him before the attack started.“It just seems there's no freedom of speech without being attacked,” he said. Question: Is this a teachable moment? Perhaps the president can have Mr. Gladney and his assailants over to the white house for a few whisky sours. August 7, 2009Dear Mr. Hennessy:I am Kenneth Gladney’s attorney. Kenneth was attacked on the evening of August 6, 2009 at Rep. Russ Carnahan’s town hall meeting in South St. Louis County. I was at the town hall meeting as well and witnessed the events leading up to the attack of Kenneth. Kenneth was approached by an SEIU representative as Kenneth was handing out “Don’t Tread on Me” flags to other conservatives. The SEIU representative demanded to know why a black man was handing out these flags. The SEIU member used a racial slur against Kenneth, then punched him in the face. Kenneth fell to the ground. Another SEIU member yelled racial epithets at Kenneth as he kicked him in the head and back. Kenneth was also brutally attacked by one other male SEIU member and an unidentified woman. The three men were clearly SEIU members, as they were wearing T-shirts with the SEIU logo.Kenneth was beaten badly. One assailant fled on foot; three others were arrested. Kenneth was admitted to St. John’s Mercy Medical Center emergency room, where he was treated for his numerous injuries. Kenneth was merely expressing his freedom of speech by handing out the flags. In fact, he merely asked people as they exited the town hall meeting whether they would like a flag. He in no way provoked any argument or altercation, as evidenced by the fact that three assailants were arrested.We hope that Kenneth fully recovers from his injuries; however, he is in great pain at this time. We will be pursuing legal action at our discretion. This was a truly senseless hate crime carried out by racist union thugs. Regretfully, Representative Carnahan’s statements blaming Kenneth for being a disruptive force are wholly untrue and slanderous.
